Brunch time at Cali Sisters !

I wanted to check out this place for a while, just because it says “Cali” in the name. I’m always very doubtful when I come across places in Paris that claim to have some LA-cuisine. It’s just never it. Same goes for LA, if you’re looking for a baguette, then don’t. Also, the main thing in LA is probably the service. They just have excellent service, you can’t say the same for Paris.

I went there with my friend on Sunday, we were lucky enough to get seated at the bar without a reservation. It said on their website they always keep a couple of tables for people without a booking, it turned out that wasn’t true… I didn’t think it would be that full, but it was. So I thought okay, it must be good then : it wasn’t really the case unfortunately.

So I’m just gonna get out of the way the things that annoyed me. First of all, it took them forever to send us a waitress to take our order, because apparently she wasn’t there yet. As in, that person didn’t physically arrive at their job at the right time. That was funny. It’s not like there weren’t any waitresses. They were at least four just looking at each other, chit chatting. But since the bar wasn’t assigned to them, so it was not their problem.

Secondly, when the waitress finally came she said they didn’t have the pancakes on the menu. Basically the place is known for their pancakes, but they weren’t doing the maple syrup ones, which are THE thing on Sunday. It sounds so bad when you open your restaurant, to already be telling people they can’t order off the menu certain things, especially since the Brunch menu is not giving many options. Plus, it’s mandatory to order only from the Brunch menu on Sunday. Totally lame. We had to take pancakes with chocolate, which is not my fave, it’s so heavy. If I had known, I wouldn’t have come, because I originally came here for maple syrup pancakes. As specified on their website.

Evidently my experience was off to a bad start.

Thirdly, when they brought us food it was : without cutlery, without our drinks, without even tap water, without napkins, then when they brought us coffee it was without sugar, without spoons… I mean we had to ask for every single little thing. It was so annoying, because we felt annoying, but we weren’t. It’s normal to bring those basic things on the table. I’m not about to eat with my fingers and nothing to drink to pass the food. That was so weird, even my friend who’s not difficult thought so.

The food was okay, except for the pastrami bagel, it had no taste. It was basically bland. The pancakes would have been better with fresh fruits and maple syrup, it was just too much with the chocolate, we ate half of it only, we were getting nauseous. My avocado toast was all right, but they didn’t even top it with an egg 😂 It was an add-on of 2 Euros. I wasn’t paying them anything more with that type of service, and how cheap they were; they literally had add-ons for anything, I ain’t never seen that many ! It’s like jeez, how much you tryna milk from your customers.

I mean they had halloumi in croutons ! It wasn’t even real halloumi pieces ! A joke. They even brought us broken stuff, like the chocolate cup, and dented plates. It didn’t look vintage, it looked like they just didn’t care. And it didn’t go with the vibe. They are trying to emulate an Instagram-worthy place. So broken sh*t ain’t gonna do it.

Don’t go. My rating for them is 3.5/10
So disappointing.
